Here's a pattern for bottom up fingerless mittens which I adapted from a couple of other patterns. I used aran weight yarn and size 10 1/2 needles for the grey mitt, and bulky weight yarn for the purple mitt.
CO 24 st
cuff:
Round 1-3: knit 1x1 rib
Round 4-10: knit all st
thumb gusset:
Round 11: k7, pm, kfb, kfb, pm, k to end (26 st)
Round 12 (and all even rounds): knit all st
Round 13-19: k to m, slm, kfb, k to 1 st before m, kfb, slm, k to end (28,30,32,34 st)
Round 20: k to m, drop m, k3, BO 9 st, drop m, k to end of round
Round 21: k9, sl last worked st back to working needle, k1, psso, k to end of round
top:
Round 22-24: knit all st
Round 25-27: knit 1x1 rib
BO all st in pattern
If you want the cuff to be longer (as was done for the grey mitt), knit three more rounds after round 10 (for a total of 30 rounds).
